Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize today. It’s only the second time in three years that the peace prize was awarded to an individual trying to change the world on an international scale. I remember back in 2007 when Al Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in global warming awareness. However, I don’t remember anything significant this year that would explain why Barack Obama would be the new pick.

The committee who chooses the person to be awarded says they credit President Obama for atmospheric accomplishments. What’s that? Some new gas or something? “Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future,” said the committee. “His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world’s population.” – Well, ok, that all sounds great but is that a reason for the Nobel Peace Prize?

Obama took office with just over a week left before the Feb. 1 deadline for Nobel Peace Prize nominees. From what I understand, there were 205 listed as candidates for the prize, more than ever before. Out of all those nominees why did they really choose Barack Obama? Is it politics?

There’s a baby shower coming up and all I keep hearing about for the past week is how adorable and cute the baby shower favors will be. What in the world is that? Baby shower favors? I know what a baby shower is, a party, in a sense, for an upcoming mother, usually a surprise party from what I understand. However, I don’t know what the point of baby shower favors really is.

I do understand what favors are all about, just a little gift for those who attend a party, but I never heard of giving these favors at a baby shower. I even ran into a Website full of baby shower supplies and they have a lot of favors for this type of event. It’s interesting because I thought the whole favor thing was mainly for weddings where the bride & groom offer wedding favors at the reception. After doing a little Internet research I’ve learned a lot. Favors are used for practically everything today, even at a birthday party or baptism, and I’ve noticed some sites also offer favors for life events such as your anniversary or even a Sweet 16.

I’m sitting here watching Gangland on the History channel talking about gangs in Charlotte, North Carolina and on comes a commercial for a new movie about the year 2012 and the end of the world. I’ve known about this theory for some time, and I can remember similar theories from the past too. It all stems down to the Mayan Calender, which ends in December 2012 so history buffs and others have decided that’s the end of the world, but what they don’t seem to be discussing anywhere is that the Mayan Calender goes past the famous end of the world date, where it shows the world renewed. I remember the end of the world was coming in 1999 because of Y2K, and I remember the end of the world was coming inthe 90’s because the planets would all be in line, and I remember the world was going to head to the end in 1987 when Haley’s Comet passed because Nostradomus said after that happened we would see great drought, and from there a 27 year war. Oh well, I wonder what they’ll say in 2013 when it doesn’t happen again in 2012.

I’ve been on the Internet for over a decade, started learning computer operations back in 1984 on the Apple IIe with the 5 1/4″ floppy, using BASIC language, and computer programming in 1986 on the IBM 5150 using COBOL. I jumped on the Internet for the first time around 1993 and started going online on a regular basis in 1997. I remember one of the first sites I ever ran into was called eBay and it was a difficult to follow site, my has it changed. All these years I’ve been online I have never had a blog, nor did I ever plan on writing one, but here I am.


I guess I’ll do some thinking and see what comes to mind, and then I’ll start typing away. I thought I’d try and make MySplice a blog that everybody else can use too, so I set it up where you can register and write your own blogs if you want to. I’ll add more features and make it more personal later for everybody else. Right now all blogs fall into the ‘blog’ section where everybody can probably access everybody elses stuff, but that will change soon enough, when I have the time. Well, that’s it for now, I’ll be back soon and start making this site into something interesting.
